Name of guest speakers: Gerry and Laura.
Organisation: The cottage Store.
Date: 21st of December.
What was discussed: We went down to An Gairdin at twenty to ten. We were welcomed and introduced to Gerry and Laura. First of all, we had to choose what colour of paint we wanted. I chose Scandinavian Pink. In front of us was a plank of wood divided into three sectors. Two sectors were already painted cream while the other was left blank.
We were told to paint the blank sector with our chosen colour and then dry it with a hairdryer. We then moved on to one cream sector and layered up the cream paint using criss cross brush strokes. We then dried it. We did the same with the other cream sector but used a different design and also applied another colour on top of it. I chose Emperor's Silk. We then applied another coat of paint to the first sector we did at the start.
When everything was dry we applied a white wax with a cloth to seal the paint. After that we applied a black wax to go into the crevasses of the textures we created by layering up the paint. This created an old look to it. Finally, we applied white wax to put a shine to it and that was our finished product.
Reflection: I learned how to apply paint in such a way to get nice textures and designs. I also learned how to use wax to make a paint finish look older. I took a lot from listening to the guest speaker. I now know how to create different designs with paint and now I’m able to brighten up boring furniture. This helped me to achieve my aims and objectives for the year as I learned something I didn’t know before.
