Name of guest speakers: Darragh and Oisin.
Organisation: ----
Date: 12th and 13th of March.
Summary: On the first day we were introduced and told what we were going to cover throughout the workshop. We started by coming up with jobs in the music industry and in the business sides of things. This was to show us that music can be for anyone and you can get a job in the business or organising side of things.
Throughout the two days we had to write and compose a song together using all our different skills. We started by going around the room and everyone picks one song that they like. We then listened to a bit of each song. Using democracy, the three most popular songs were chosen to use. We simplified down each song to the different verses, bridges, hooks, choruses, instruments used and the genre of the song. After this we divided into groups of four and came up with our own lyrics using newspapers and the same number of syllables in each line. This took a while but using all the different groups idea we game up with a song.
We then had to start composing the music. Some people played the keyboard and others helped on the computer and the ukulele to compose the music. We finished the first day half way through composing the music.
On the second day we started off learning about the science behind music. We spent half the day learning about this. We learned about the ear and how it hears sound. We also learned about the microphone and amps. We listened to different frequencies of sound. We could only hear the sound in the range of 20Hz to 20k Hz.
For the second half of the day, we organised the music for the song. Some people recorded their voices in another room and others recorded themselves on guitar and other instruments. At the end of the day we came up with most of the song. Darragh and Oisin will replace their voices with the recorded ones and then it will be finished.
Reflection:
I learned a lot from this workshop. I learned more about music production and the programs you use. I also learned there are more jobs than I thought involved in the music industry.
I took a lot from the guest speakers. I now know more about music production and that’s it easier than I thought to make a song.
This helped me to achieve my aims and objectives of the year as I did something I wouldn’t have usually done and I learned things I didn’t know before. I also got on better with my classmates.
