Organization: Healthy Lifestyle Program.
Name of guest speakers: Jeff Allen and Agata Hidalgo.
Date: 6th and 7th of September.
What was discussed: The course covered how to live a healthy lifestyle and what foods are the best for your body. It also covered how to succeed at a task.
On Thursday, we started in class and Jeff gave us a talk on how to live a healthy lifestyle. He showed us the healthy lifestyle wheel which consisted of diet, exercise, sleep, relaxation, friends/family and work/education. He also talked about living like the hunter. This means to start living like the hunter did in the stone age because they ate the right healthy foods. Nowadays we eat fast food and are ruining our bodies from the inside but the effect is starting to be recognizable on the outside. He taught us there is no such thing as failure and he showed us this diagram on how to improve on something. He also taught us about group dynamics. He told us a bit about his life and how he used to be in the army. Out of 98 people he was one of the eight to keep with it to the end. This was inspiring to me since he didn’t give up.
During the day, we did various physical activities. We were divided into groups of nine and competed against others in games like tug of war, knock out and the eliminator.
Agata talked to us about nutrition and that the chemical MSG is apart of the ingredients of everything. MSG makes you want more of the food and it also makes you think it takes great.
On Friday, we did four games. We did shuttle run, a relay race, a group relay and the grand finale. We also talked about nutrition and Agata told us more about the right foods to eat. At the end of the day, Jeff gave out the awards and the grey team won overall. It was a good two days in total.
Reflection: I learned that having fast food and sweets aren’t a treat as it ruins your body on the inside. I also learned that you can never fail and if you don’t get it right the first time try again. I found out about MSG and how it makes you addicted to the food it’s in.
I took a lot from the guest speakers. I will always remember about MSG and the effects of it. I also will take with me about fitness and doing exercise more often. Finally, I will remember how to be good to your friends and how to always look out for them.
This two-day course helped me achieve my aims as I learned things I didn’t know before. Also, this helped me as I had to be in a group with my classmates. This made me get on better with them.
