For the Variety Show, we had to rehearse a lot to get everything right. We started organising the show in September. Mr Coughlan came up with different scenes we could use. We all worked together to make each scene the best it could be.
For the stage, a group of Ty students designed and painted it. I helped to draw it up and paint it. We were taken out of most classes to finish the stage in time, so we could start rehearsing on it. The finished product looked amazing.
For the costumes, Miss Lohan came to meet us and told us what we should look like. She told us some shops to look in for old Ireland clothes and to look at our grandparent’s houses. She also ordered skirt online for our dance routines in ‘Grease.’ and ‘All Shook Up.’ Finally, we all found what we needed, and it was a big help to make the variety show better.
During all our music classes, we practiced songs and dances leading up to the variety show.
When Angela came in we learned and practiced our dances with her. We went to the gym or room M to learn and practice them with the music. We learned a dance to the song ‘Born to Hand Jive.’ And ‘We Go Together.’
We practiced for a few classes everyday on the stage coming up to the Christmas exams. Unfortunately, when the Christmas exams were on we could only practice when we had music class. When the Christmas exams were over it was full steam ahead to perfect the show and the songs.
The week of the show we had numerous dress rehearsals and went over everything. We only had one night to perform, and everything needed to be ready.
The day of the show, we did one final dress rehearsal as the extended stage came and the lights and microphones arrived. We then went home to rest before we had to come in for the show. At six, we all came in and got our hair and makeup done. Before the show started, we had a pep talk and then we started. At the interval We rested and got ready for act 2. When the whole show was over, we took our bows and listened to the speeches. We also presented Miss Murtagh and Miss Coyle with flowers as Mr Coughlan with chocolates.
Reflection:
From the show, I learned more about the how talented my year are and more about their personalities. I also learned how much it takes to put on a show. Overall, I enjoyed the show as I never did anything like it before and I pushed myself to do new things.
