Where we went: Delphi Adventure Centre.
Date: From the 20th to the 22nd of September.
Summary: We set off from the school around ten on the Wednesday morning. Three hours later at around one, we arrived at Delphi in Connemara. We got all our suitcases and gathered in the den to be welcomed and shown our rooms. We were then told our first activity and went upstairs to get ready for it. Our year were divided into groups, two groups went surfing and two groups went doing the high ropes.
I went surfing. We got our wetsuits and hopped on the bus for a twenty-five-minute drive down to the coast. We got changed and headed down to the beach with our surf boards. We were shown how to get up on the surf board and how to stand on it. We practiced that for a few minutes before heading into the water. It was warmer than suspected and I tried my best to stand up on the board. I could only lie on the board when the wave came before falling head first into the water. After a long time of failing I didn’t manage to stand up on the board but I was proud of myself as at the end of the session I could get up on it without falling off. We made our way into the shore got dressed and headed back to the Centre.
We had dinner and cleaned up. We then gathered for our evening activities. One group went for a walk in the woods and my group did games inside. This lasted until nine when we went got supper and went to bed.
In the morning it was the hike, so we ate breakfast and started to what was going to be a tiring day ahead. We hiked for 16 kilometres and in-between we took small breaks. At the top of the mountain we had lunch and admired the views. It was a hard day and we were all thankful to go back to the Centre for dinner. At seven we gathered in the courtyard for the evening activity. We went into the woods for a campfire where we sang songs, ate marshmallows and had fun. At nine we had supper and went to bed exhausted after the day.
On Friday, we woke early and packed our things and left them in the classroom. We had breakfast and went to our last activity before going home.
The other group went surfing when my group did the high ropes. At half twelve we had dinner and then around two we packed our things on the bus and headed home.
Reflection:
I learned that you don’t know you like something unless you forget your fears and try it. I took how to try new things from this trip.
This trip helped me achieve my aims and objectives of the year as I would of never went surfing off my own bat and I sure of wouldn’t hiked 16k. I also learned how to surf even though I wasn’t that great at it. I also got on better with my classmates.
